Extraordinarily Ordinary | #MyFridayStory No. 153

You are unique. Like everyone else.

Over the last 6 months, the world has experienced a time like no other in living memory. Almost overnight, the world shut down as all travel and movement of people came to a halt. The city streets were empty, and the skies cleared. We became homebodies loafing around the house in track pants attempting to bake craft bread.

Parents spent quality time with their children, gaining a new respect for teachers and childminders.

There are few today that can claim to have escaped the pandemic unscathed. The negative effects have had far-reaching consequences that touched every aspect of life. Depending on your social status, the consequences can be devastating. Those that were financially vulnerable before the pandemic are desperate today. Around us, people are suffering. The world can be an ugly place.

It’s easy to become despondent.

But, over the last 6 months I have witnessed the opposite happening in many people. The best way to describe it would be:

A transformation is taking place.

Ordinary people are doing extraordinary things.

They are choosing to not be the victim. They do not look back at the past, the present, or even the future, as it does not define them. They know that life can either make you Better or Bitter, and they choose Better. To them, life on pause is a waste. They conquer the fear of feeling unworthy because inside them is locked-up possibilities. They are not waiting for approval; they know where their hope lies.

These extraordinarily ordinary people all share 4 qualities:

  1. Goodness – generous, kind, and humble, they offer their selfless services without a need for recognition
  2. Love – in their eyes you will see their heart is pure, their love never runs out
  3. Purpose – they wake each morning with clarity of what needs to be done and a willingness to act,
  4. Grace – Bono says it best in this U2 song of the same name

She takes the blame

She covers the shame

Removes the stain

It could be her name

It’s the name for a girl

It’s also a thought that

Changed the world

And when she walks on the street

You can hear the strings

Grace finds goodness

In everything

She’s got the walk

Not on a ramp or on chalk

She’s got the time to talk

She travels outside

Of karma, karma

She travels outside

Of karma

When she goes to work

You can hear her strings

Grace finds beauty

In everything

She carries a world on her hips

No champagne flute for her lips

No twirls or skips between her fingertips

She carries a pearl

In perfect condition

What once was hurt

What once was friction

What left a mark

No longer stings

Because Grace makes beauty

Out of ugly things

Grace finds beauty

In everything

Grace finds goodness in everything…

Have an awesome weekend and please be generous! 😄

As always, thanks for reading 🙏
